Leslie Bibb is officially joining Upgraded 2, giving the fast-moving sequel a major boost as cameras prepare to roll in Italy. With Camila Mendes returning to star and produce, Upgraded 2 is shaping up to be one of the more closely watched additions to the streaming rom-com slate.
The sequel follows the breakout success of the first film, which centered on a young New York art-world intern whose white lie sparks romance, ambition, and fallout. While plot details for Upgraded 2 remain tightly guarded, the addition of Bibb adds experience, prestige, and fresh curiosity to a project already backed by global distribution on Prime Video.
Leslie Bibb Boards Upgraded 2
According to the announcement, Bibb will star alongside Camila Mendes in Upgraded 2, with Becca Gleason directing. The screenplay comes from Luke Roberts and Justin Matthews, the writing team behind the first film, suggesting the sequel may preserve the tone and character dynamics that connected with viewers the first time around.
Bibb arrives at the project during a particularly strong stretch in her television career. She recently earned Emmy recognition for her guest role in Hacks, appeared in Palm Royale, and remains a high-profile presence following The White Lotus. Her casting in Upgraded 2 signals that the sequel is aiming for more than a simple follow-up; it is positioning itself as a polished, talent-driven romantic comedy with crossover appeal.
Why Bibb’s Casting Matters
Bibb brings a mix of comedic timing, sharp dramatic instincts, and star power that can elevate a sequel’s profile. For audiences, that means Upgraded 2 could lean into richer character interplay while expanding beyond the original film’s central romance.
- Prestige factor: Bibb arrives with recent Emmy attention.
- Genre versatility: She has moved comfortably between comedy, drama, and ensemble projects.
- Audience curiosity: Her role is still under wraps, which adds intrigue ahead of release.
What We Know About Upgraded 2 So Far
For now, the story details for Upgraded 2 have not been revealed. The first movie followed Ana, an ambitious intern at a New York art auction house who pretended to be a director while falling for a wealthy, handsome man. That deception complicated both her career path and personal life, giving the film a classic romantic-comedy engine built on aspiration, mistaken identity, and emotional consequences.
With Mendes returning, the sequel could revisit Ana’s world through a more mature lens. Whether Upgraded 2 picks up directly after the original or introduces a new chapter entirely, the creative team appears to be keeping the hook under wraps for strategic reasons.

Italy Setting and Prime Video Release Raise the Stakes
The decision to begin production in Italy is notable. Romantic comedies often benefit from visually rich locations, and an Italian backdrop could give Upgraded 2 a more luxurious, escapist feel. That kind of setting naturally complements stories about reinvention, romance, style, and status—elements already embedded in the original film’s DNA.
Meanwhile, Amazon MGM Studios securing worldwide distribution gives Upgraded 2 a broad runway. A release across more than 240 countries and territories means the sequel is not being treated as a niche streaming title. Instead, it is positioned as a globally accessible entertainment play with strong commercial potential.
Camila Mendes Continues Building Her Producer Profile
Mendes is not only returning in front of the camera but also producing, a sign of her growing influence in the film and TV space. Her continued involvement in Upgraded 2 suggests confidence in the property and a desire to shape the sequel creatively as well as commercially.
That matters in today’s streaming landscape, where star-producers increasingly drive development and branding. Mendes has already built a loyal audience through television and film, and Upgraded 2 gives her another chance to define a modern romantic-comedy franchise for digital viewers.
Leslie Bibb’s Momentum Is Hard to Ignore
Part of the excitement around Upgraded 2 comes from Bibb’s current career momentum. She has become one of those performers who can sharpen an ensemble simply by entering it. Recent and upcoming work across HBO, Apple TV+, and Prime Video shows that studios and streamers see her as a valuable presence in prestige and mainstream fare alike.
Her recent projects have ranged from biting satire to high-end drama and comedy, making her a particularly smart fit for a sequel that may want to balance charm with sophistication. In short, Upgraded 2 gains credibility by bringing her aboard.
What to Expect Next
With filming now underway, more updates on Upgraded 2 should arrive in the coming months, including first-look images, a fuller cast list, and eventually a release window. The biggest unanswered question remains Bibb’s role and how the sequel plans to expand the original premise.
For now, the ingredients are promising: a returning lead, a director in place, writers familiar with the material, a scenic European production base, and a globally scaled streaming release. That combination gives Upgraded 2 real potential to stand out in a crowded entertainment market.
